BAOBAB CHILDREN FOUNDATION
is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Ghana with a German sister organization and was founded in 2001.
We work for the rights and the dignity of the child. We run the “Baobab School for Trades and Traditional Arts” a school for illiterate and rejected youth that is integrated in our YOUTH TRAINING CENTRE. 30 students live at our Centre, overall girls, as we want to protect them and put our attention on their education. 22 Ghanaians work with us. We work as a team and try to solve all kind of problems together. We try to look after the poorest of the poor- those government and other institutions are ignoring.
HIV-AIDS, Teenage Pregnancy, Child Labor, bewitching of girls, preservation of traditional arts, environmental protection, bushfire and reforestation, recycling of plastic, the use of renewable energy, building with local materials, healthy food, organic farming including medicinal plants, production of traditional medicine is a matter of concern to us.
We are members of the Moringa Association of Ghana and have been awarded 2007 as best organic farmers and promoters of medicinal plants in our District.
The German Founder and Managing Director - Edith de Vos - is an experienced educator and lives mainly in Ghana to accompany the project work.
We cooperate with Chiefs, Human Rights, Social Welfare, other NGOs, Oxford Preparatory School, the public schools and the residents of Kissi, Kwahinkrom and the surrounding villages. We also have good contacts in the KEEA District Assembly to the District Chief Executive, Agriculture, Health, Department of Non Formal Education.
